Ravi Landeck Short Story Third Draft Diamonds Deep in the Alps lies a small town called Clay. The sun was rising over a frosty blue mountain, and drops of dew were dripping from the leaves in the valley. Arthur awoke to find his bedroom filled with light. He went downstairs and drank a glass of water, not hungry enough to eat. Arthur stepped out into the cold morning and began walking down the street. The road was lined with hundreds of huge alpine trees. A large flock of birds flew in the sky above Arthur's head. "Arthur! Hey Arthur!" Arthur turned to see his two friends James and Derek. The three had been best friends for years. "Hi guys" Arthur said. James winked at him. "Guess who was lucky last night." Arthur he smiled and started walking away. “You?” he said smiling. “I don't believe it.” Vast clouds floated between colossal mountain peaks. “Let's go to town. I need cigarettes.” “You should really stop,” said James. “Oh, shut up.” suddenly swirled in their faces. The three boys went off the road down a hill into the woods. Derek looked straight ahead and said, "This way!" the three under a log and over a hill, then began cutting haphazardly through tracts of forest. "Where are you going?" James asked. "This is a shortcut!" “Idiot, this will only make us lose.” "No, I'm sure this is a shortcut!" Derek replied. James turned to Arthur. “We should just go for a walk.” But Arth... in the center of the paper... found himself at the edge of the bridge and screamed. Then, Arthur kicked Derek's foot and spun him around with all his strength. He pulled Derek's arms into a firm grip. Breaking Derek's balance. He gave Derek a hard push. Derek was sent screaming off the bridge, crashing onto the rocks hundreds of feet below. Arthur cried and picked up the bag of diamonds. Two years later James went to visit Arthur's mansion in his sports car. James and Arthur were now both multi-millionaires. James had survived the knife wound and was fitter than ever. Arthur never forgot the horrible events caused by one man's greed and donated much of his wealth to charity. The two had split the diamonds and sold them in Antwerp, each earning over $200 million. To this day it has never been known how the diamonds ended up in that forest.
