Beethoven has not yet taken off his eagle and feels the influence of these classic predecessors. Beethoven arrives in the second period, which produced the great symphonies: the Eroica, the famous Fifth Symphony and many other orchestral works. But there is a second term in string quartets. There are five quartets, belonging to two groups: The three Opus 59, all wonderful and touched by the passion of this brilliant time. And then two Drang Sturm from the same period: the "Serioso" Quartet and the "Arpe" Quartet with technical innovations never known before. Arriving at an early age (he is over 50), his music is introspective and yet his genius needs to focus on symphonic works of incomparable grandeur: the Solemn Mass and the Ninth Symphony, which represent the pinnacle of his orchestral creation. But he did not abandon the string quartets and launched into a composition never heard before, and while the performers refused to touch them because they did not understand. In these latest quartets, his third and final mandate, he has already announced jazz and modern music. There are dissonances, pauses, silences still imitated by twentieth century music
