Motivation refers to an internally generated drive to achieve a goal or follow a particular course of action (Exploring Business, 2014, Chapter 7, p. 21) . The reason motivation is highly sought after and important to the human side of management and leadership is that there must be one person willing to motivate a group of individuals to strive to be better. Individuals need different forms of motivation, such as a pay raise, changed work hours, better benefits, or even telecommuting to make them happy and feel empowered to get the job done. When people feel motivated they tend to pass it on and motivate others. Setting an example helps a lot. It's human nature to want to feel valued and appreciated. Motivation must also occupy a higher place in the scale of values because without it people would not have goals, would not have the desire to achieve something better and would not have guidance on how to achieve them.
