Topic > Isothane EMA Mechanism - 972

The ISO THANE EMA elastomeric membrane is a liquid applied coating based on urethane perpolymers which cure by reaction with atmospheric moisture to give a continuous elastic film. Contains leaf aluminum which gives excellent UV resistance. ISOTHANE EMA is a very high solids content coating designed to provide a high build film. It can be applied by brush or spray (with airless equipment), but has a higher viscosity than a conventional paint and does not need to be diluted. ISOTHANE EMA curves to form a permanently flexible jointless membrane which, by virtue of its chemical reactivity in the wet state has good adhesion to a wide range of substrates (provided adequate preparation) such as asphalt, slate, tiles, asbestos , concrete, brick, wood, glass and metals. Unlike more traditional bitumen-based products, ISOTHANE EMA does not easily become brittle with age, exposure to ultraviolet rays or atmospheric agents and therefore does not crack or craze. Because it is elastomeric, ISOTHANE EMA is not adversely affected by extreme temperatures, therefore it will not crack at low temperatures or suffer from heat flow at high temperatures. ISOTHANE EMA can be applied by brush, airless spray or roller without the need to mix, stir or heat prior to application. APPLICATION ISOTHANE elastomeric membranes are designed to adhere to many types of substrates, particularly those commonly used as roofing, such as felt, asphalt, slate, tile, asbestos, concrete, brick, wood, glass and metals. They can also be applied to sprayed polyurethane (PU) foam insulation. However, it is essential that the substrate and structures are adequately prepared and stable. The surface previously treated with silicone-based materials will inevitably be difficult to coat and... half of the paper... 5 should always be followed. Paint products UN 1263. Keep out of reach of children. Keep away from flames and sparks .Do not smoke.Do not breathe vapours/aerosols.Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. In case of contact with eyes, wash thoroughly with clean water and consult a doctor. Avoid prolonged contact with skin; wear suitable protective clothing and gloves. Remove from skin with a mild solvent/hand cleaner and wash with warm soapy water. Contains isocyanate, specific information is available on request. Note: more details on the above can be found in the polymer publication lidquid "A Guide to the Safe Handling of Polyurethane Resins."
