3.) What mood exists in the novel and why?3.) sThe mood that exists in the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers is depressing. You're sharing emotions with Steve as he goes through a grueling court procedure. Thinking about all this, about how bad it is to be in prison, about the murder of an innocent man makes you feel depressed. I think Walter Dean Myers wanted to incorporate that atmosphere for his readers into the story and he succeeded perfectly. Identify the 2 main conflicts with in this novel and tell me what kind of conflicts they are. Remember to discuss the protagonist and antagonist. (Must contain 2 quotes)7. “Let me make sure you understand. Both you and this King character are on trial for a crime of murder, which is about as serious as you can imagine...”-PG.12 O'BRIEN One of the major conflicts within the book is evident (at least to me) Steve is accused of murder and could be sentenced to life in prison. This conflict is external (character against character) and Steve (protagonist) fights against those who accuse him (Bobo, Lo Stato, Petrocelli etc.) who are the antagonists. “...It was me who wasn't sure, it was me who lay on the bed wondering if you were kidding me” - PG.148 STEVE. Another major conflict is that Steve is struggling to find out who he really is, what he did, what is real, and what is a lie he made to console himself? Steve is also struggling to deal with what he has become. This is an internal conflict. Steve is struggling with himself to find out who he has become and deal with the situation.9. Identify and describe 2 rising actions and how they lead to the climax of your book. The book Monster has an opinionated plot, you could say Bobo's testimony was the climax, or the falling action is six months later, the rising action was an example... ... middle of paper. ..... [Bobo and King]” - pg.130 STEVE. This quote shows that he wanted to be tough like Bobo and King and show Osvaldo accusing Steve of being lame. He gave in and played a role in the robbery due to peer pressure.11. Describe 2 falling actions and how they lead to a resolution. Remember that these should connect the climax to the resolution.11. Two falling actions were: A) Steve's father leaves - After the trial Steve's father leaves. He doesn't say it directly but he felt like he didn't know his son anymore, so he left. This event connects the climax to the resolution because it shows how after the trial he becomes a better personB) 5 Months Later - 5 months later Bobo is still in prison and Osvaldo steals a car. Steve continues to make videos of himself to discover his true identity. This event shows Steve staying out of trouble and connects the climax to the resolution.
