Sometimes an author has a purpose for writing a specific story or poem and fails to fully and clearly express their point of view in the writing. However, when the author is specific about what he would like to convey, this is usually his main goal. In A Devoted Son by Anita Desai, Anita Desai works to achieve some of her beliefs such as expressing the duality of human nature and that nothing is as simple as it seems. In A Devoted Son Anita Desai follows her original plan for the story for the following reasons.
