African American law is an essential topic for many texts from any historical period. Malcolm X and Danzy Senna both choose discrimination against African Americans as the main point of their essays. In The Mulatto and Millenium, Danzy Senna tells her stories of growing up as a black girl with a Wasp mother and a black-Mexican father. On the other hand, From The Ballot or the Bullet is a speech by Malcolm to persuade African Americans to unite, regardless of religion, to fight for their human rights. Through these words she wants to tell the entire audience that she is proud of her identity. Her parents teach her that there is nothing to be ashamed of about her identity. We are born the same and cannot choose our identity, so why are we treated differently just because of our identity? In both cases, rhetorical devices are used successfully in these texts. They build a strong argument about the right of black Americans that motivates the movement of black Americans to fight for their right to vote and civil rights. If there was no black American movement in the United States, who would believe that a black American is the president of the United States??
