Topic > Neil Armstrong's space journey: Tintin To The Moon

Space, a mysterious place, the moon, a curious place that humanity questions day after day. In the 1960s and early 1970s the United States sent a three-person team to the Moon for the first time. The crew consisted of: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Of the three, Neil Armstrong was the first to set foot on the moon (Journal of American History 609). The name of the mission to the Moon was called “Apollo 11” and this mission took place in July 1969 (Beall, Jeffrey 122). Space is an unexplored place, there are still people trying to discover more than they already know. The people of Curtin doubted the mission, some people in front of the US flag seemed to be waving in the wind, but the moon does not have an atmosphere (Mashing Moon Myths 505). Fifteen years before Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, one of Belgium's most successful Labande dessine´e, a specific type of artist called Herge, sent his "hero" named Tintin to the moon in his book called Destination Moon (Beauvais, PClementine 252). In the human mind the moon can be interpreted as many different things. For example, some may think that the moon is a god, heaven, hell, or sometimes even the entire Earth (Springer 252). When Hergé was born in the early 20th century, a literary work entitled From the Earth to the Moon, written by Jules Verne, was possible, from which the ideas of the moon were derived (Goddin 100). NASA is planning to send humans back to the Moon on a mission called “solid beginnings” in the future. For the past three decades the Moon has not been the main focus along with all the other planets such as Venus and Mars (Lawer 612). Some people believe that the Moon's material core rose up and moved toward the surface. .... middle of the card ...... after the new moon, the portion illuminated by the sun increases, but less than half, so it is a waxing crescent (Hisle Parker 49). After the first quarter the sunny portion increases, but is larger than half and therefore becomes gibbous. After the full moon's light diminishes further, the waxing gibbous becomes a waning gibbous (Murrary 161). After the third quarter there is the waning crescent, which remains until the light disappears completely, then it becomes a new moon (Lawler 2018). In conclusion we have now learned all the phases of the moon, just like an astronomer would have done! The moon is not always in the same place in the sky every day/night. Sometimes we see the moon during the day. Sometimes we see the moon at night and on special occasions we may not see it at all. It all depends on the pattern of changes observed and the illuminated portion of the visible moon.
