When kids come home from school for the first time, they turn to technology, whether they head for the TV or iPhone. In a way, technology has become our life because without it we would be lost. Compared to free Wi-Fi and a smartphone, a book may seem unappealing, but how many things never lose battery and can be read over and over again without getting bored? A book doesn't need a wall socket, internet connection or app, unless we use an eReader, and every time we read a book we discover something new. Most teenagers never think of picking up a book, not knowing the benefits of reading. They help students become more versatile, for example by writing well, using correct grammar and improving their use of imagination. While the rate of schools requiring book reading has remained relatively the same, the number of kids reading for pleasure has declined from the 1990s to the 2000s (“To Read or Not to Read”). Especially during the presentation, you can see students spending their free time following their favorite shows or using Tumblr, Twitter or Instagram. My blog posts, which happen to be all over the Internet, encourage kids to make the decision to pick up a book for fun, not because they have to. Kids tend to listen to other kids, especially when it comes to teenagers. A blog by teens, for teens, would encourage more people to read in their free time, instead of going straight to the phone or Netflix. Precisely for this reason I decided that my project would be to create a book blog. I originally had three ideas: a book blog, a volleyball Pinterest, and a place where I could share my interest in piano. All of these ideas were based on something I had a passion for, but I felt like I had a...... middle of paper ...... writing a book review, but I learned quickly. I've realized that when I'm interested in my project, I invest a lot of my time and make an arduous effort to do my best work. I am grateful to be able to share my interests with others and I love that I have the ability to impact a person's life in one way or another. I believe that reading is the place where a person can grow their imagination because reading transports us to another place, not in our body but in our mind. I look forward to a future where a person isn't at a loss as to what to do when their iPhone battery dies or their Wi-Fi stops working because they know there's a great book out there waiting to read be read.
