Introduction to Event PlanningAccording to the International Institute of Event Management, the United States Department of Labor defines event planning as the coordination of every detail of those events from location down to specific details such as printed materials (2013).There are four types of event categories; which are celebrations, education, promotions and commemorations. Below are examples of each category. The main type of events are celebrations which consist of weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and fairs. The training events consist of conferences, conventions, meetings and graduations. Promotional events consist of product launches, political rallies and fashion shows. Finally, commemorations are events that include commemorative and civic events (The Event). Event planning responsibilities include research, budgeting, writing a timeline, choosing event locations, obtaining event permits, organizing food and beverage menus, determining the transportation and accommodation, selecting a theme, organizing activities, selecting speakers and entertainers, and so on. During the event, planners coordinate every detail of the event. Event planning as an industry has grown tremendously over the last 15 years, thanks to economic momentum and new trends in corporate business. Planning an event can be stressful and time consuming for people who are inexperienced, by having an event planner on hand, the event will go smoothly. Academic Preparation for the Event Planning Industry To become an event planner, there is no specific specialization or study requirement.
