Topic > Amelie: Interesting premise and beautiful cinematography

For our second assignment, we are assigned to watch an international film and study it afterwards. We need to identify its genre and its particular conventions such as themes, subthemes etc. However, the main idea of this assignment is film theory. We must apply one of the nine film theories to our film choices and analyze it thoroughly in terms of mise-en-scene, narrative structure, character interactions and any other criteria. For our movie selection, we reviewed and watched some international films. films which included Chinese films, Bollywood films and some French films. After a brief discussion we unanimously chose a French film entitled “Amelie”, released in 2001, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou. We chose this film for its unique vision, interesting premise and beautiful cinematography. For these reasons, we felt that “Amélie” would be a good choice for our assignment. BackgroundAmélie was directed and written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. His films are among the favorites of viewers of this generation. Interestingly, her films are always subject to critical analysis as many French film festival juries are not enthusiastic about her films, Amélie was rejected by the Cannes Film Festival. This is also due to the fact that Jeunet collaborated with other countries to finance his films, which caused juries to question the authenticity of its status as a French film. Jeunet's next film project, also starring Audrey Tautou, is A Very Long Engagement (2004). Set in wartime France and in the French language, its status as a French film has been questioned by juries because Warner Bros. Studios provides...... middle of paper ..... .ugh is a film of their own, a very rare case. It achieved huge success in the UK and the lead actress was also invited to shoot some English-language films such as Dirty Pretty Liars and The Da Vinci Code. Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet received critical acclaim and earned a few Oscar nominations for his film. He is recently developing an English-language film called TS Spivet which will be released in 2014. As film critic Frédéric Bonnaud said: "To hear the French tell it, Jean-Pierre Jeunet's film didn't just save French cinema as it we know, it saved France.” This is true as interest in French cinema increased significantly and the production of films with larger budgets was allowed, as well as the development of a working relationship with the United States of America. to produce successful films such as Arthur and the Minimoys and The Bourne Trilogy..
