IntroductionDoctor Who is a British science fiction series, which has been one of the most successful television projects of the last fifty years. It has become an iconic image of British culture, influencing several generations of fans and popular culture in general. The main premise of the series is to follow a humanoid alien time traveler, Doctor Who, who, as he travels through time and space, helps humanity, encounters various alien races, and experiences various adventures. This program was created as part of a science fiction television genre (Chambliss, 2013). This essay will discuss a representation of technology and science within this series and what cultural processes have influenced how these are presented. The entire history of this television series will be taken into account, from its beginning in 1963 to the current episodes. On the one hand, it will be suggested that technology and science are the core of Doctor Who, presenting scientific knowledge, innovations and suggesting the future course of these. The document will also point to technological progress in the production of the series. On the other hand, it will be described how the concepts of science and technology are used in Doctor Who to express a cultural feeling of its time. We will address how the program intentionally uses science and technology to educate its audience, question technology, and leverage the science fiction genre to create social commentary in any time period.
