Macbeth is packed with a lot of information and contains many references to political aspects of the time when Macbeth was first written. King James wrote about demons and witches in a piece with two characters called Philomathes and Epistemon and Garry Wills talks about the nature of the Gunpowder Plot. Macbeth is full of these ideas of political storm and demonic forces at work in the lives of the three witches who are, in fact, important characters in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Wills writes "From this point on, puns on various forms of 'hit' would be common in accounts of the Conspiracy, or refer to it," (20). This plot idea is a connection because in Gunpowder Plot, Guy Fawkes wanted to kill King James and blow up parliament. There is a lot of political struggle in Macbeth that this idea can be linked to.
