Topic > Effects of the Treaty of Versailles - 721

Germany felt that it had been singled out as the only nation guilty of the war and did not agree with the treaty at all. They felt like they were being treated like the scapegoat. I think that if Germany had been allowed to participate in the drafting of the treaty the chances of a Second World War would have decreased. The fact of not being able to participate in the treaty accentuated the anger of the Germans and foreshadowed an early look towards the Second World War. The Germans regarded the treaty primarily as a great insult to their nation. By 1935 Germany had violated many provisions and Hitler simply ignored the treaty altogether. On September 1, 1939, Hitler and Germany attacked Poland. Not only did Americans have to deal with this problem, but we also had to deal with the Cold War. The biggest impact the treaty ultimately had came when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and brought the United States into World War II. Despite the reactions of the Versailles Peace Treaty, no formal peace treaty was ever concluded towards the end of World War II. Overall the Treaty of Versailles led to a short-lived peace that could have been better. All in all this treaty was really the first step towards World War II which would end all fighting between these nations for the most part (other than the Cold War). Even though the treaty should have been done differently, the treaty delegates had no way of knowing and did the same thing I most likely would have done
