If the manager does not understand these people (their behavior), then how can he manage them? Organizational theories can help managers understand why an organization and the people within it behave the way they do. Organizational theories are the research and study into understanding organizational behavior, they provide insight into how work should be done and how work is actually done in practice. It also helps explain why people behave in certain ways, what determines their performance and their attitude towards work. Understanding the different theories can help the manager apply knowledge to improve the effectiveness of an organization. Organizations are not completely random, they all have some sort of framework, whether explicit or not, and some frameworks handle situations better than others (Bolman & Affare, 2013). The study of organizational frameworks helps managers understand the structure and processes of organizations and how organizations interact with industries and societies. Then combined with an understanding of organizational behaviour, i.e. the impact that individuals, groups and structure have on behavior within organisations. As cited by Gaither (2012) “understanding of organizational behavior is necessary for managers to function productively in an organizational environment”. Managers must be well informed to make effective decisions. Give meaning to the workplace and help create an environment that allows individuals to work together in groups to achieve their group goals
