My carbon footprint: reflections and solutions Over the course of the semester we have examined a myriad of environmental issues, particularly our impact on the world both globally and locally. We considered the implications of not changing our cultural behaviors and some of the consequences that are unfolding now and expected in the future. The meaning of the discussion has come to impact my personal experience, the lenses from which I make decisions that continue the march toward continued environmental degradation or the hard right turn I must make toward global sustainability starting here and now. 2.89 EarthWhen evaluating my carbon footprint using the myfootprint.org website I answered a quiz that asked me what my daily living habits were, what I buy, what I eat, how I move from one place to another, my source and how much energy I use at home and how much water I use. Over the past decade I have actively worked to make changes in my life to be more controversial about my life choices, so I thought my score wouldn't be terrible. Once the results were revealed, I was disgusted by how much I am directly contributing to the problem of global warming. If my score could be this scary, I can only imagine what others might be like and what collective impact we are truly having on the environment. In class we learned that Americans are responsible for most of the environmental problems we face. Our culture goes beyond consumerism and we use resources around the world without considering the implications. Future generations will be horrified by the senseless destruction in which we have participated, and hopefully if we all work together we can make a concrete effort... middle of paper... a deliberate effort to consume less at all levels. we believe we could solve this problem. The idea of reducing, reusing and recycling is the mantra, followed by the idea of living modestly and conservatively. I continue to perfect myself and challenge myself to raise the bar, as well as nagging those around me to do the same. The Take Away Message It is my desire that a public awareness campaign take place, where every person, regardless of circumstances, has the opportunity to participate in a dialogue of sharing facts and seeking solutions in which the themes of this lesson could be brought to light, because only with an awareness based on facts and personal relevance will we be able to make the necessary changes. These issues should be part of our cultural dialogue because we are all in this together and only when we act collectively can change occur..
