Carper refers to this as the “art of nursing” (Carper, 1978, p. 16). The empirical model emphasizes the epistemology of the physical world in relation to observed events or phenomena. Aesthetics goes beyond empiricism by increasing the level of patient care by noticing the small details and making the nurse/patient experience satisfying. By allowing the nurse to express style and individuality, he or she may be able to increase the level of care provided and be able to assess immediate dangerous situations more efficiently and timely.
