"There are two sides to every question: one side is right and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil," Ayn Rand, author of Anthem, once said . That said, being in the middle of your rights and majority voting would never work because it's bad. It is only bad because nothing can progress and after all progress is the main part of a society. Choosing a side is the first step towards a better society, but even more important is the side you choose to follow. Objectivism is the way forward to find a better tomorrow. Objectivism should be considered higher than collectivism. Collectivism does not allow society to move forward, and if something is accomplished, it takes a long time for an idea to flourish. An example of this is the time it took for all the brothers to agree on the Candle. For example: “It took fifty years to get all the Councils to approve the candle, to decide on the number needed, and to repurpose the pots to produce candles instead of torches” (Rand 74). It's a ridiculous time to wait for an agreement to be reached on an invention. What's even worse is that sometimes great ideas are outright rejected just because the majority doesn't agree. This can be seen in: "'Many men in the Houses of Scholars have had strange new ideas in the past,' said Solidarity 8-1164, 'but when the majority of their brother Scholars voted against them, they abandoned their ideas , as all men must',” (Rand 73). Collectivism does not drive social progress and therefore should come second to objectivism. The sense of empowerment that comes from objectivism allows workers to fight for themselves. Productivity, in turn, increases. Working for oneself and not for the common good, which suggests collectivism,...... middle of paper......discovery and self-love arise from the peace of the only word that is me. Prometheus explains it: "And now I see the face of God, and I raise this god upon the earth, this god that men have sought since men were born, this god who will grant joy and peace and pride." This god, this single word: 'I'" (Rand 97). The teachings of objectivism include self-discovery and self-thought that bring happiness to one's being. Objectivism should be considered higher than collectivism. This is to ensure progress social and self-empowerment. Of course, happiness is also important for the individual and objectivism will bring this. Instead of being trampled upon by the masses, one must defend oneself to ensure that they, above others, can be happy in their life pull you down?Works CitedRand, Ayn New York: Dutton, 1995. Print.
