For example, when people do not complete the full course of treatment or healthcare professionals prescribe the wrong treatment, the wrong dose or the wrong time period for taking it of drugs, the tuberculosis virus can create resistance to further treatments, which can also lead to the severity of tuberculosis. Conclusion Every year there is a huge positive change in the eradication of tuberculosis. However, this does not mean that tuberculosis has stopped posing a public health threat in the United States and around the world. According to the World Health Organization, 1.5 million people died from tuberculosis in 2013 (WHO, 2014). The CDC reports that “In the United States, 536 people died from tuberculosis in 2011” (CDC, 2013). Education can be a powerful weapon in the fight against tuberculosis in the United States and around the world. Today, it is encouraging that so many people know how tuberculosis is contracted in humans and what causes drug resistance effects among those being treated for tuberculosis. I believe that education is still needed consistently to eradicate this deadly disease.
