In the West, the possibility of a successful democracy in the Islamic world is still under discussion. This is due in part to the significant revolutions that have taken place and continue to take place in many Muslim-led countries. These concerns arise from the possibility that true democracy in Islamic countries could lead Islamic democrats to seek the reconciliation of human rights and civil liberties under a strict Islamic government. It goes without saying that an Islamic democracy is perceived as a threat; with good reason. Decades of anti-Islam crackdowns have managed to corrupt the image of Islam in many Western countries, portraying it as authoritarian and anti-democratic. Islam has always been the soul of all Arabs. For all Muslims, the embrace of Islam and the restoration of Islamic political authority are natural. Asking Muslims to abandon Islam and adopt Western ideals and lifestyles is like asking them to abandon their human and cultural identity. Therefore, a separation of church and state within countries that preach and practice Islamic values is not possible. The fact that Islamic extremist groups, such as al-Qaeda, still exist should not be undermined. Such groups should be fought relentlessly as long as they continue to behave as they do. However, treating all people of the Muslim faith equally as a small group of religious fanatics is both unreasonable and unfair. Although Western culture claims that Muslims show genuine concern for their human rights and civil liberties, their interference is quite harmless.
