Stories are highly creative pieces that develop the themes and plot in a brief way. Short story writers are usually faced with the challenge of limited time and space. In attempting to achieve explicit expression of plot development and themes, short story writers may choose to assume some details, ignore some completely, or, better yet, use literary styles to express themselves (Ford, par. 1). Because short stories can evade real-life situations, time span, traits of human beings, and the whole life, they can show their boldness and boldness in literature, but not necessarily that of their writers. Of course, stories can elide the real-life situations from which they are developed (Ford Para 1). Usually, this happens due to their challenges in time and space. It is obvious that short story writers need to develop a plot and various themes based on real life situations. At the same time, it can be argued that the real-life scenario itself presents countless dynamisms, which cannot be fully detailed in the space of a short story. Therefore, short story writers ignore most real-life scenarios and target a few. In the story “A&P”, the writer could have avoided some real-life situations in developing the plot and detailing the scenarios. The “A&P” writer used the first-person narrative style. In doing so, this short story only expresses the scenarios as the writer perceived them and his imagination. For example, when loosely dressed ladies enter the grocery store (Updike par 1), there may be other people nearby, each with a different type of reaction. The writer also deliberately fails... in the middle of the paper... while addressing the women. Although one may doubt whether this is a controversy about age difference and other socio-cultural issues related to lifestyles and trends of real life situation, yet the writer, presenting this episode, uses contrast as a literary device to develop a scenario that may have required much more space and time to develop. This is a characteristic of short stories, where writers use a few words and define situations to represent an entire real-life situation. Therefore, it would be wrong to directly associate the writer with his short story work. Works Cited Ford, Richard. "Top-level artists." theguardian. Np, 03 November 2007.
