This creates a unique way in which the author tells the story because even the quotes he introduces are similar to the "survival" theme that Into The Wild is primarily based on. First Jon Krakauer introduces a quote from Jack London that says, "He was a masterly, incommunicable wisdom of eternity that laughed at the futility of life and the effort of life. He was wild, the cold-hearted Northland wild" (Krakauer, 9 ). This quote ties into the theme of the book which basically explains Chris' trip to Alaska. Another example of Jon Krakauer's use of other quotes is when he quotes Anthony Storr as saying, "If we transfer this concept to adult life, we can see that the avoidant child could very well develop into a person whose primary need was to find a sort of meaning and order in life that did not depend entirely, or even primarily, on interpersonal relationships" (Krakauer, 61).
