I chose to research the career of a correctional officer because it is a career field that I want to explore further after graduation. I have always been curious about the correctional side of the criminal justice system. The rewarding aspects of a career in a correctional institution are challenging. I want to be in a place where I can positively influence someone to make a change in their life. Working in a prison would allow me to experience a wide range of different people and situations. Duties Correctional officers work within the penal system of the criminal justice system. Most of their tasks consist of implementing specific measures to ensure safety and security in prisons. This requires them to constantly supervise the prisoners' daily activities and their movements at all times. Correctional officers must conduct cell searches, inmate searches, mail searches, and inmate restraints to prevent assaults, disturbances, and escapes.
