Stoner womenAn ethnographic studyJoelle Baker - December 18, 2013 IntroductionI have chosen to do my ethnographic study on stoner women. They are a subculture of a subculture and are often not recognized as part of society. I hoped to shed light on the daily lives of women smokers and put an end to further stereotypes associated with this group. During my study I found that women smokers lead relatively normal lives, only it involves smoking marijuana. Further participatory research on the subculture has led to some interesting findings about their culture such as rituals, economics, language, taboos and stereotypes. I interviewed two women who are self-proclaimed stoners. It wasn't particularly difficult to gain access to this subculture because I'm part of it. However, it should be noted that it is not easy to join this group due to its illegal nature. In most cases friendships must first be formed. Once they feel you are trustworthy, people will feel more comfortable allowing you to take part in the activity. Stoners don't let strangers know that they smoke, or even who they hang out with, in an effort to protect them from lawsuits. The same caution is used by drug dealers. Retailers generally do not accept new customers suddenly. Usually a trusted customer will recommend the retailer a new smoker to hire. In other cases they will act as a third party between the reseller and a new customer, concluding the agreements so that the reseller does not become physically involved. This protects the drug dealer from possible sting operations with law enforcement. Some of the challenges I faced in my practice were the availability of weed. I wanted to know What is a stoner? For starters I get the feeling that it... middle of the card... awarded hits are despised. The person is considered greedy. Social control measures exist to stop these actions, such as ostracizing the offender from the group. Mini-ethnographic report By studying women smokers I have learned to put aside some of the stigmas associated with smoking. It made me more aware that they are normal everyday girls and should not be judged by society. Besides that, I looked deeper into why girls smoke and found that some use the drug for medical reasons. Some of the challenges I faced in conducting my field research were that some girls did a little too much drugs and had difficulty responding. my question. It was also exceptionally appealing for me to participate in group activities while conducting my research. In fact I had to make more than the required observations for this reason.
