Embryonic Stem Cell Research!Danielle CaseBaker CollegeEmbryonic Stem Cell Research!“In November 1998, scientists reported that they had successfully isolated and cultured human embryonic stem cells, a feature that had eluded researchers for nearly two decades.” (Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, n.d.). This announcement kicked off an intense and ongoing debate between those who approve of embryonic stem cell research and those who oppose it. "Some of the most important research supporters are scientists and patients who believe that embryonic stem cell research will lead to the development of treatments and cures for some of humanity's most pernicious diseases (such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart disease and diabetes).” (Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, n.d.) Among the most vocal opponents of research are those who share the desire to heal, but who oppose the pursuit of healing through unethical means that, because human embryonic stem cell research requires the destruction of human embryos, such research is unethical, regardless of its purported benefits. Ethical alternatives to achieve such benefits should be actively pursued do they get “Embryonic stem cells are cells produced by both adults and fertilized embryos.” (American Life League, n.d.) They are the cells that are basically a baby in its early stages of development. “They are also cells found in bone marrow and muscle tissue.” (American Life League, n.d.) Stem cells can be obtained from different tissues throughout the body the reason why stem cells are so sought after is because they have the ability to repair… middle of paper… patients Have scientists been able to use embryonic stem cells to treat diseases? Tests on embryonic stem cells have also been reported to have a great effect on patients embryonic stem cells? Scientists call this a game-changer for stem cell therapy. “Which requires normal skin or blood cells to be soaked in a weak solution of citric acid for 25 minutes.” ).Should it not be ethical to allow the destruction of a few embryos to help the millions who suffer from disease” (Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, n.d.). What people believe is good or bad about embryonic stem cell research?.
