When one neglects to spend time with one's spouse or child, the spouse or child may disengage from the relationship. This disengagement can result in undesirable behaviors. However, when they are shown care and concern by sharing time with them in relationship-building activities, spouses and children feel involved and respond positively. Conscientiousness Conscientiousness means paying appropriate attention to a task; indicating the degree of attention required in a given situation. My personal experience with conscientiousness in marriage and family is that it strengthens bonds between people. What I have learned through my interactions with my wife and daughter is that there is no better way to connect than by recognizing what is important to them. What can be learned from conscientiousness in marriage and family is that people, who are aware of each other's needs, can help each other when adverse circumstances arise. For example, if the breadwinner of the family is struggling to find a better-paying job and needs time to look for new opportunities, a spouse or family member who conscientiously cares about this need will support him or her.
