Having a knack for economics and accounting, I have decided that I want a degree in Accounting and Finance or Management. The many brilliant representatives of the management community around the world have strengthened this determination. When I worked in my school as an English as a Second Language tutor for community school students in Muscat, I understood the importance of a strong leader who could organize, demand respect and be able to work well with others. These ideas were further strengthened by my month-long internship at Novartis Pharmaceutical (accounting and finance department and human resources department). I attended the Harvard Model Congress in Paris and won the award of distinction. One skill in particular that contributed to this award was my confidence in public speaking. The last 4 months have been crucial to my learning about business and the real economy. For my IB extended essay, titled “To what extent does Subway in Oman operate as an oligopoly,” I set out to demonstrate the oligopolistic structure of the fast food market in Oman. In this effort, I have come across many real-life complexities in price behavior, profit making, and other aspects of the theory of the firm. As I attempted to explain these alternative theories of companies, I developed a keen interest in analyzing and understanding how the business world works. After a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance or management, I plan to undertake postgraduate studies and work on an MBA. An excellent performance in a BA will allow me to move on to an MBA and only then will I be satisfied. For the past four years I have been a member of our school's ICE volleyball team. We have held our ISAC (Inter Schools Activity Conference, Middle East) title for four years. Playing the power hitter position requires enormous physical fitness and to achieve this I regularly go to the gym for fitness training. I am also part of my school's track and field team. As the fastest sprinter in school since 11th grade, the 100, 200, and 400 meter races are my specialty, although I still pursue long-distance running. In my free time I explore and master the computer as I am familiar with a Visual Basic programming course.
