Topic > but I couldn't imagine what wrestling would be like then 9000 years ago! In Japan they found carvings of something similar to their famous sport, sumo. Hmmm who knew that the sports we play now are the same as those that have been around for thousands of years and have been the same with only a few rule changes here and there, I would expect the sports to change a lot. In the Sumerian civilization they found more than just one painting showing multiple examples of sports and people wrestling, for example there is a painting showing 3 pairs of wrestlers around 3000 BC Even the Sumerian king had fish hooks just like the ones he let's use it now. In Egypt there are monuments made for pharaohs dating back to around 2000 BC and many sports were depicted on those monuments. The sports there were sports such as wrestling, weightlifting, long jump, javelin throwing, high jump, swimming, rowing, shooting (such as bow and arrow), fishing and there were also many different ball games. Wrestling is an old sport but it is very popular, many places have a history of wrestling, time is the same type of wrestling, I'm not sure they played wrestling the same way...middle of the card....that crap, they just sold one of their best players. That same year American boxer Jack Dempsey beats, Jess Willard for the heavyweight title, Jack wins and Jess walks away with a broken jaw, that fight sounds like something I would like to see. Then, traveling further in time, we will head to the year 1924, where Johnny Weissmuller won three Olympic gold medals in swimming and a bronze medal in water polo. In the same year, 1924, a British rugby team called The Lions toured South Africa, which is quite a big deal. Just 4 years later Norwegian skater Sonja Henie won the first of three consecutive individual Olympic gold medals. Wow, if you think about it, sports have changed a lot throughout history, especially from 1800 to today, that's when it changed the most. From the earliest times, before 600 BC, sports remained the same for a long time until 1000
