There is optimism in all literature known to man, if it wasn't optimism then it would be pessimism. They are the basis of any literary work. It is found in many books and poems today. In Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit451 he enhances the theme of optimism. Author Ray Bradbury writes about a boy named Montag who lives in a society where firefighters burn houses instead of putting out fires. Montag searches for the good in books that are banned in this dystopian society where knowledge is prohibited from emerging from society. He and other literature seekers pave the way for him to learn knowledge and freedom of thought which is against the law in this society. Montag falls in love with books so much that he tries to find someone who can teach him something and how important they are to life. The world would fall apart without knowledge, no one would have any idea what to do or how to eat since they don't have that knowledge at hand. Optimism can also be found in William Ernest Henley's “Invictus,” Freedom to Breathe by Alexander Solzheitsynand and in the speech “Elie Wiesel's Nobel Acceptance. In the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest optimism is found in the quote “my head is bloodied, but not bent” (2). This shows how no matter what negative thing happens in your life, no matter how bad it is, you can always make something positive out of it. Optimism can also be seen in the quote "my invincible soul" (1). This shows how confident and positive he is and shows that he puts negative emotions to rest and only positive emotions increase and defeat negative emotions. Let only the positive in and let the negative stay out so that nothing can conquer his soul. He thanks the Gods for his "unconquerable soul... middle of paper... in that person's life, for example in the 2 poems I quoted the writers were in prison and were depressed, yet they show mercy and seek compassion rather than defeat, it takes a lot to show compassion after being in prison for speaking your mind Make someone want to kill someone for doing this to you can be found anywhere that has a narrative basis according to the common method of writing know if he will be optimistic or pessimistic. In the novel "Fahrenheit 451" he has both, he shows a lot of pessimism but he shows optimism especially at the end when the city is bombed and everyone dies except Montag and the professor as well as the montag new friends “Fahrenheit 451.” New York: Simon & Schuster Paperback 2013.
