The audience, together with the creator of The Red Balloon, establishes intelligence and co-presence in the balloon by converting its object into a subject for human perception. The balloon is the director's other vision that slipped the director's mind. This would make the balloon attached to the strings not in the director's mind, but in an image of the director's mind. There is an encounter of the other supported by a game of imagination and perception between the director, the balloon-puppet and the audience. The boy protagonist and the Parisian suburbs, together with the almost silent plot, constitute the platform on which the interaction takes place. The film celebrates itself through the duality between existence and reality
