In Little Bee and Incendiary by Chris Cleave, the characters Little Bee and the unnamed narrator, respectively, undergo a traumatic experience early in the books. Furthermore, these two characters find themselves in extremely different situations, but their lives are exacerbated by the experiences they go through. Little Bee, a sixteen-year-old Nigerian girl who travels to England to escape the conditions in her country, finds herself locked up in an immigration detention center because she has no legal documents proving her age. However, both find a branch of hope to hold on to before hitting rock bottom; with the help of the people around them. Ultimately, both characters undergo immense changes as they develop courage and emotional strength to overcome the barriers that stand between them and a better life...
