Next is the poem titled "Those Winter Sundays" by Hayden, based on the story of a young boy who wondered about his father as he worked every Sunday to make sure the house she was hot for him. “Even on Sundays my father got up early.” (Hayden, pg. 1047) this showed that the father got up early every Sunday while the readers rested on Sunday, so they thought why they should get up early on a day off. It also wouldn't make sense to work on Sunday. The reader could not imagine working on Sunday; they prefer to have the day off rather than work. Additionally, readers don't quite understand why the boy's father worked on Sundays when he could have easily taken a day off, so readers don't feel like the poem is working for them. “What did I know, what did I know of the austere and solitary offices of love?” (Hayden, pg. 1047) This type of question confused the readers for a minute until they realized that he was thinking about his father and what made him who he is. Readers don't fully understand her experience because some of them may not feel the same way she does
