Topic > Why Marijuana Remains Illegal - 1490

"I felt so good after using this, I want to try it again" Sam said after using the drug name marijuana. He is an 18 year old football athlete about to graduate from high school. He was a smart boy and everyone sees a bright future for him. After a year Sam became a habitual marijuana user and then marijuana took over his life and he became mentally and physically ill. He couldn't play on the football team anymore because he physically couldn't do it and then after a while he stopped going to college. Now there is no future for him or his family. This story and many other similar stories about marijuana users and its effects on their lives are the reasons why marijuana should be illegal. Not only marijuana but any other drug that is dangerous and harmful to people and society should be illegal. By definition, marijuana is “a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, ground leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant. ”(1) Marijuana has been very useful throughout history, for example “in 6000 BC cannabis seeds were used as food in China; in 4000 BC the Chinese used hemp fabrics; by 2727 China was using cannabis as medicine, and by 1500 BC the Chinese were cultivating Cannabis for food and fiber” (6). But unfortunately today man has made this useful plant very dangerous by using it incorrectly. Marijuana is the very common and most used illegal drug in the United States. The scientific name of marijuana is Cannabis, but there are more different terms for marijuana that you may hear from different people such as weed, weed, weed, Mary Jane or chronic. Marijuana contains 400 dangerous and harmful chemicals, but the main one is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Nowadays people use marijuana by smoking or... middle of paper... bling, it's legal in some US states, but people still do it illegally. And some also believe that with the legalization of marijuana the number of crimes in society would decrease, but it is not true because crime would increase, society still has problems with alcohol which causes rape, robbery, reckless driving and murder. They don't want to face additional problems by legalizing marijuana. And the other topic was about the legalization of marijuana because it was intended for medical use. Some people, from a long time to this day, believed that the chemicals contained in the drug could be useful for treating diseases. But there are also some arguments and research that show that these beliefs are not scientifically true. From these arguments and research it appears that marijuana is a dangerous drug and can be harmful to society, therefore it should not be legal.
