The individual's place in our society influences our experiences, values and choices. My specific place in society really boils down to a few labels, Student, Uncle, child, adult, Albanian and provider of all els. Thanks to these roles that I play, I have an individual place in society which also entails power and expectations. The experiences have become more meaningful growing up as teenagers, you see the world and society in a new light almost as if it were a different life. Every experience involves a responsibility that must be acquired before truly understanding it. My place in society also changes my values and needs. Furthermore, I find myself doing “adult” things and having these values forced upon me, then acquiring the need to accommodate these values. I also find myself making choices that are more beneficial to the family. My individual place in society is based primarily on my family and close friends. Role theory is explained as essential to overall social life, and from birth, roles, obligations and privileges are all tied to your individual status that has been pre-set for you. Society has a standard of how one should act based on labels starting from being male or female. Once you are labeled in society, they create a social norm to follow which is just a set of basic rules that you must follow to be what society thinks is the right way to be. Boys playing with toy soldiers and girls playing with dolls are an example of how society makes it a standard for families to teach children. William Shakespeare said: “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely actors. They have their exits and their entrances; and a man in his day plays many parts” (Henslin). This is an example of general social life ever... middle of paper... tority. Culture is a very diverse social acceptance that normally occurs only within the culture itself and the actions taken depend on the set of morals and beliefs followed by the culture. As an Albanian the mentality is less diverse but more family oriented and highlights the importance of trust and respect more than anything else. Ultimately, our individual place in society is based on the roles we play. Different roles create a foundation for different experiences and different values from that role, and as a person who plays many roles, each experience is simply based on your character. The more you are exposed to different social labels, the greater your chance of falling into a social norm category. Being a family oriented individual, my place in society is more based on my family's standards and almost everything comes back to benefit the relatives.
