Topic > Are men mothers?: Fatherhood, care and housework...

Traditionally, mothers are assigned the task of staying at home to take care of children and carry out daily household tasks. However, in recent years men have become increasingly involved in the home. Men increasingly share the same responsibilities with women in terms of managing the home and raising children. Many fathers choose to stay at home to care for their children rather than work outside; either because of termination of employment or because their wives earn a higher salary than them. In a modern study, an increase in the number of working mothers as well as stay-at-home fathers was observed in Canada (Sutherland 2008). This is where the need arises to analyze whether fathers are as competent in providing education and care as mothers. In his book entitled Do Men Mother?: Fathering, Care, and Domestic Responsibility, Doucet researches the life of fatherhood by illustrating whether fathers essentially perform the role of mother or motherhood when caring for their children (Doucet 2006).Andrea Doucet , currently on sabbatical, is a professor of sociology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from York University and completed his master's degree in international development from Carleton University. Doucet furthered his studies at the University of Cambridge where he obtained his PhD (Carleton University 2011). In addition to book chapters, the majority of her works over the past sixteen years have been academic articles that have made sense of and clarified theoretical and experiential understanding of topics related to care and work, gender issues, and life within of the company. A significant number of his works address various issues such as responsibility, self… at the center of the paper… selves as fathers (Doucet 2006: 217). Using different theoretical perceptions, the book provides a breakdown of the division of domestic responsibilities and manhood (Doucet 2006). Furthermore, it also presents the literature on parenting as a result of analyzing the role of fathers from the maternal point of view. Do Men Mother?: Fathering, Care and Domestic Responsibility explores the concerns of men who choose to remain as full-time fathers to meet the needs of their children rather than work outside the home (Doucet 2006). The book has a huge impact in terms of making readers understand the difference between the roles of mothers, as well as the responsibilities of fathers, while the common goal of providing proper care and love to their children is shared by both genders..
