I've decided to expand on my Week 5 All About That Bass post. Our assignment for that week was to analyze Meghan Trainor's song All About That Bass and give our opinion on what message we believe the song's lyrics and video conveyed to the audience. The second part of our assignment also involved watching "It's Not About the Nail" and Dave Barry's article which addressed gender stereotypes and the effect they may have on individuals. I really enjoyed this post because it allowed me to delve deeper into the lyrics of the song and analyze it in a way that many might not. Originally, the song portrays Trainor singing about loving and accepting yourself for who you are, regardless of your body size. However, that wasn't really what the song was about. Instead he continued to attack other women for their skinny bodies. I said that as a woman who had the power to make such a strong contribution to the lives of all girls, she should empower all women. I would like to rewrite my post going into more detail about the cultural cycle and how it has overcome social responsibility...
