Roosevelt emphasizes that a woman is simply destined to be a fearless housewife and mother to her many children. However, in today's society, this cannot be the reality. Women should still take care of their home, as any human being should, and if they are mothers they should be fearless, but women are no longer expected to limit themselves to working at home, nor are they required to have an abundance of children. Now that women are demanding equality, they must respect men's expectations as set out in The Strenuous Life. If women are not required to stay at home and keep it clean, then they should be expected to seek greatness themselves and work just as hard to achieve it. Even in Roosevelt's time, African Americans and other minorities were barely considered men. When he spoke of hard-working individuals who rose to prominence in society, he spoke of white men and no one else. Despite this, the basic moral of the story is the same. Work hard and success will come yours
