George Orwell's novel “1984” is by far the most brilliant and interesting book I have read in recent years. The novel is simply Orwell's prophecy of what the future will be like. The novel reflects on Orwell's perception of how a world state would function. “1984” was written just after World War II, so it is reasonable to argue that the war influenced Orwell's vision of the future. As I said before, the book is interesting, especially in two particular ways; The way George Orwell, in my opinion, makes a very accurate prediction of the future and the way individuality is experienced within the novel. I will simply point out the pros and cons of the novel, as I think you as a potential reader of the novel should educate yourself before exploring George Orwell's intimidating dystopia. The title “1984” doesn't draw attention to it at all, and that's one of the reasons why I think the book doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves. The last two chapters of the book are also quite extensive, as they assure the reader of some facts they were informed of earlier in the novel. The world imagined by George Orwell consists of three superpowers; Eurasia, Eastasia and Oceania. The three superpowers are all engaged in a perpetual and never-ending war. In the novel we follow the main character Winston Smith and his lover Julie throughout their rebellious life. Winton works for the government and is 39 years old, while Julie is much younger but also works for the government. The novel was written after World War II, and during that time there was a real concern about whether the totalitarian communist state would take over. or not. George Orwell ponders this possibility and writes a novel... middle of paper... that shocked me the most. As mentioned above, all three states of the world are involved in endless wars. In reality in the novel there is no real war between the states. It is in the interests of all three states to continue the war. This strategy also aims to keep the population in constant fear, since they cannot rebel against the government otherwise the enemy will gain the upper hand. This brings me to the situation the world finds itself in today. The war against terrorism is the endless war predicted by George Orwell in this wonderful novel. Just to conclude this review, I would like to end with a strong recommendation on this very book. The novel still manages to give me goosebumps, and this very slogan can't seem to leave my mind, and I don't think it will leave yours once you read the novel; War is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength.
