Topic > Anatomy: The Gastrointestinal Tract - 707

Hello everyone and welcome to Mr. Doe's GI tract tour. Today we will take a tour together with the very unhealthy food that he will consume in a few minutes, such as a hamburger, fries and a root beer. For the next few minutes, take a moment to look at the pictures of each facility on the flyer located on the back of the seat in front of you. The digestive system consists of the digestive tract called the alimentary canal which forms a continuous path from the mouth to the anus. I hope everyone is buckled in and excited to see the different structures within the digestive system located in Mr. Doe's body today! Ladies and gentlemen, please hold on tight as Mr. Doe takes a bite out of his burger in seconds. We just got to Mr. Doe's mouth. As you can see, the burger and fries are broken down into small pieces with each chew so they can be easily digested. During this process, saliva mixes with food so that the body can absorb and use each carbohydrate, fat, and vitamin at various points, such as the bloodstream. I'm sure the taste buds allow Mr. Doe to enjoy this disgustingly juicy burger! Taste buds are located near the back of the tongue but if you want to get technical with the words, they are located on the back lateral area of the tongue! I can bet that some of you didn't know that our tongue helps in chewing, swallowing and swallowing food and also helps clean our teeth. I know! Very strange right? For a moment we will begin to accelerate downward into the alimentary canal, colliding with various juices that actually contain enzymes. The alimentary canal is a long tube about 8-10 meters long...... half of the paper...... m. Both the ileum and jejunum are coiled structures. The ileum contains villi and microvilli which increase the surface area useful for the digestion and absorption of food. All three sections of the small intestine have tubular glands in their walls that secrete juice into the intestinal lumen. This secreted juice helps to mash food and mix it with other juices. This process helps it advance towards the large intestine which we are getting enormously closer to. The small intestine absorbs most nutrients. Ironically, the large intestine is shorter and wider than the small intestine. Looks like we're going to take a detour to the mucosa. The mucosa, simply put, is our personal air filter. When it works properly, it takes the air we breathe and cleans, warms and moistens it. It is also one of the first-line defense systems of organisms.
