Chapters 1-2: The first two chapters mainly focus on introducing a character named Hercule Poirot, who is the main character and detective of the story. In the first chapter, set on a train in Syria, Poirot observes two other passengers named Mary Debenham and Colonel Debenham. In chapter two Poirot checks into his hotel in Syria and receives a telegram telling him that he must return to London, so he books a ticket on the Orient Express back to London with the help of M. Bouc, the boy who owns the actual train.Chapters 3-4In the third chapter Poirot and M. Bouc observe thirteen other people in the train and what they are doing. In the fourth chapter, which is very short, Poirot is promoted to first class on the train. Also, while Mr. Poirot is sleeping for the first night on the train, he wakes up to a groan from the cargo indicating the train has stopped. Chapters 5: In chapter 5, Poirot couldn't get back to sleep after the freight train groaned, he keeps sleeping and waking up. When Poirot wakes up, M. Bouc says that he needs Poirot's help because Ratchett (one of the thirteen people observed by Poirot) has been murdered and there was no police on the train. Dr. Constantine, a doctor on board the train, says death occurred around midnight. at 2 in the morning, moreover, no one got off the train, so the killer must still be on the train. Chapter 6: In chapter 6, Poirot is interviewing MacQueen. MacQueen was Ratchett's secretary, he believed that Ratchett had been murdered and says that Ratchett recently received threatening letters from someone. Chapter 7: In Chapter 7, Dr. Contastine and Poirot investigate Ratchett's body for clues about the killer. Has Ratchett been stabbed... middle of paper... no, but he is there and Poirot and Colonel Arbuthnot talk about Miss Debenham but Colonel Arbuthnot says nothing about her and doesn't think she is "a highly suspicious character ”.Chapters 30-31In chapter 30, Miss Debenham admits to living in the Armstrong house at the time of the murder and to having lied to Poirot during his interrogation. In chapter 31, Poirot realizes that everyone on the train was somehow connected to the Armstrongs and Poirot has figured it all out. Chapter 32 In chapter 32, Poirot gathers all the people on the train and provides two possible solutions to the mystery. After providing the second possible solution, Mrs. Hubbard admits that she was the murderer and that the second solution was correct. The second solution was that everyone on the train was involved in the murder and that Mrs. Hubbard had killed Ratchett.
