Topic > The Cons of Gun Control in the United States

Gun control is a topic that elicits strong opinion from the general public. Gun control is the effort to regulate or control the use and sale of firearms. The right to bear arms is granted to all Americans by the Second Amendment and many believe it is essential to maintaining order in the United States of America. Although this was the right granted to citizens by the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights, many Americans choose not to own a gun, and others would like to see this right abolished altogether. Both sides of the issue have good arguments, but after further research, many more details emerge that explain why standing against gun control is a better outcome for the United States and its people. Some may say that gun control should be enforced because it will make the public a safer place and decrease gun violence. “An average of eight children and teens under twenty are killed by guns every day” (“Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence,” 2012). The current President of the United States, Barack Obama, is currently working to enforce and pass more laws and legislation to protect families and citizens of the United States. Effective enforcement of our current laws would be an important step toward reducing the number of crimes committed with firearms and the number of criminals with firearms. The Most Challenging Element The crux of the gun control debate is whether existing gun laws are adequate or whether additional gun laws need to be created and enforced. In 1791 the Second Amendment was a law designed to allow citizens of the United States the right to own and bear a firearm. Although this law seemed to give more freedom to citizens of the United States in the 18th century, it became a law about the... paper society. Conclusion Overall, a federalist approach to the gun control debate will lead to less violence within national borders. By implementing a national law that requires private sellers to obtain a license and buyers to undergo a background check, the Gun Show loophole will slowly close over time. Introducing more laws to limit the type of firearms you carry will also help reduce gun-related deaths. If Republicans want to increase their chances of stealing the White House in 2014, they should finally lessen their commitment to the Second Amendment and realize the benefits of a concealed weapons law, so that society can finally see a sharp decline in annual homicides and related injuries. Guns cause emotional distress because we fear people having guns around us. Nowadays everyone has guns and they are increasing everywhere.
