Important Language Skills Among the Four Language Skills Communication plays a vital role in our daily lives. To acquire good communication, it is important to master four language skills, namely reading, writing, listening and speaking. I studied some articles in which the authors specified the meaning of each language skill. They found a strong positive relationship between the four skills and stated that none of them is complete without the other. Effective communication is acquired after learning these skills well. My goal in this article is to highlight the importance of the four language skills, especially reading, which I consider the most important language skill. To this end, I have organized my article into four main sections. In the first section I briefly introduced each communication skill (i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking) and highlighted the importance of each of them. In the second section, I provide an account of the importance and interrelationship of the four communication skills separately and argue and specify the importance of reading skill for knowledge acquisition. I conclude my article with the third section which offers the conclusions drawn from my study and observations, opening new initiatives for future studies. The third section follows the fourth section which states the work I cited in my article. Before stating the importance of reading, I start my article by defining communication skills and defining each skill separately, describing their importance in our lives. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Everyone uses communication skills. We use them at home with our families, at work with our bosses and colleagues, on our computers when responding to emails. All of this requires communication... paper... knowledge. For example, if we have to write an essay and present it in front of an audience, we must first read the information relating to the topic and then write it and present it. It is a continuous process that does not end until the questions in our mind end. Children from the beginning should be accustomed to reading and targeted reading to increase their IQ and stature. Reading helps in reasoning and increases the analytical skills of an individual. Reading broadens the vision and mind and helps the individual behave responsibly in society. He/she becomes an active member of society by improving all language skills making the individual a successful good communicator. Therefore, according to my observations and studies, reading tends to be the most important language skill of the four skills, namely reading, writing, listening and speaking.
