As for communication, I find the idea of avoiding eye contact very rude and extravagant. However, in some cultures, direct eye contact is considered inappropriate. This is the case in some Native American and Asian cultures, where cultural norms dictate avoiding any unnecessary direct eye contact in order to maintain social hierarchy. Another way I have been ethnocentric involves family roles. I think having one gender limited more than the other is weird (like only allowing women to fill domestic roles). Of course, I have never seen a family where the mother or father was more involved than the parents due to gender inequality.
