In the article “The Canadian ban on Pakistani adoption”, Nicholas Keung, a journalist specializing in immigration, talks about the Canadian government's decision to ban the adopting children from Pakistan, citing a problem with the Islamic practice of Kafala; a guardianship system that does not end the biological parent-child relationship or grant full parental rights to adoptive parents. He tells us that this ban which came into force in July has sparked a lot of controversy and has left these prospective parents and Pakistani children waiting to be adopted emotionally distressed. I oppose the Canadian government's decision to ban the adoption of Pakistani children. I am against this motion because this ban is a clear form of marginalization of these Pakistani orphan children. Additionally, adopting children of a different race can be a benefit to the Canadian government and the nation as a whole. The sudden move that was made and came into effect in July is a form of marginalization of these Pakistani orphan children. I say this because these children are deprived of a good and dignified home and family. The imposition of this ban has reduced their chances of being adopted by a family that would show them as much love and care as any other child needs and deserves. According to Nicholas, “most of the parents who have already started the adoption process, have given up their time and money just to get the process done and these children who were obviously waiting for someone to come and take them in, have had their hopes shattered just because of this unexpected move.” This left them wondering… middle of the paper… no longer difficult to adopt.
