How a person best retains information is considered their preferred learning style (Irvine & York 1995). It is important to know which learning style best suits a student in your classroom. Being aware of how a student learns best will help the teacher plan how to provide the student with the knowledge needed to be learned in the way that best suits each student. Knowing students' learning styles can help improve both learning and teaching in many ways. There has been a lot of research into how people learn and how information is conveyed to them. As a result of the research, several tools have been created to classify these learning styles and help people understand which style best suits them. There are two main points to consider when talking about learning styles. The first point is to be able to evaluate what type of learning style your students prefer and whether this is the best style for them to retain the knowledge you are teaching. Second, teachers face the problem of how to teach students who adopt a certain learning style or combination of styles. There are many options available to teachers and education professionals to tailor their curriculum to any type of student. Each learning style has its specific characteristics. If a person's learning personality matches what assessments believe to be the characteristics of a particular learning style, that person will be labeled a visual, auditory, tactile, and/or kinesthetic learner. A visual learner prefers to see the material in front of him. When they think about information, they think in terms of images or images (Vincent & Ross, 2001). An auditory learner is someone who learns best by listening to things. This person would be... middle of paper... in court will help both you and the students. The benefit of a student understanding which learning method may work best for them is that if they have difficulty grasping an idea they know that there are other ways to understand the information. Once students have a better understanding of the different ways they learn, this will make learning more fun. As a teacher, if you teach a group of students who don't understand the information you want them to learn, you are wasting your time and theirs. When you teach material in a particular way and a group of students doesn't understand it, be flexible with the lesson because these students may have different learning styles. Making sure each learning style is respected in teaching methods will make the educational experience smoother for both teachers and students.
