Is being attached to something in great abundance a bad thing? Well, in some cases it can be. Undoubtedly, many people in today's society constantly live in the anguish of fear of losing loved ones and deal with their anxiety in various ways. However, while many methods are accepted by society's standards for dealing with stressors, some individuals have more extreme methods for dealing with separation anxiety. For example, in "A Rose for Emily", the protagonist, Emily Grierson, loses her father and fears that a similar event will happen with her supposed lover. Because of this, it's easy for readers to assume that Emily suffers from separation anxiety. In this story by William Faulkner, she takes what modern society would consider drastic measures to ensure that the two never leave her.
