Topic > Enforcing Tougher Penalties for Animal Abuse - 977

Should a man who sexually abused and tortured his girlfriend's kitten face just eighteen months in prison? People who commit these crimes usually face a minimum amount of prison time and many times this doesn't even appear on their criminal record. Animals are living creatures, so they should not be harmed in any way and above all they should not be killed. Enforcing harsher penalties for animal abuse would show people that without animal diversity, these species would become extinct, our food sources would be limited in the future, and the damage would continue to be done if sanctions were not enacted. Making the sanctions more severe would be to show people that without animal diversity these species would become extinct. “The brutality and senselessness of the crime had environmental experts fearing that the world's most dangerous animal had found yet another excuse to massacre the creatures with whom we share the planet. “The area must be secured immediately,” said Deo Kujirakwinja of the Wildlife Conservation Society's Congo Program, “or we risk losing an entire population of these endangered animals” (Begley, Johnson and Scelfo). This statement means that if humans did not stop abusing animals, such as hunting them, it would lead to serious problems in the future. As of today, many people do not take this topic very seriously, as if it happens to human beings. “Humans cause habitat loss by converting natural landscape to urban or agricultural landscape and through pollution, mining, drainage and deforestation. Hunting can also drive species to extinction, as has happened with several famous extinct species...” (Extinction and Extirpation). Animal cruelty does not necessarily have to do with physically torturing the animal. It was... middle of the paper... less severe and required a felony charge for the second offense." (Matthew). Currently these bills have been unsuccessful because crime has been reduced even though it could have been high. Reducing crime may lead people to not take these laws seriously and cruelty will continue anyway. Enforcing penalties for animal abuse would show people that without the diversity of animals these species would become extinct, ours. source of food would be limited in the future and the damages will continue to be implemented if sanctions are not enacted. Failure to enforce more severe sanctions leads to people continuing to commit these crimes against many animals animals and at some point in the future food sources will be limited. The lack of tougher sanctions would also lead to the destruction of animal habitats, along with wildlife and other outdoor resources.
