Having legalized prostitutes plying their trade in one location, such as in brothels or specific identified areas, would help identify those who are illegal or victims of trafficking. Equally important in the battle against human trafficking, the recognition of free prostitution would allow police funds to be concentrated on catching the real criminals of forced prostitution. If prostitution were made legal, the police would not have to spend countless hours and money trying to eliminate it and protect the community from it. As a result, some of the real crimes are overlooked and the real victims of forced prostitution are also overlooked. Resources, time and energy that can help real victims of sex trafficking are wasted saving those who don't want to be victims. This is very financially counterproductive when everyone is painted with the same brush. Criminalizing prostitution would force it into the underworld, where legalizing it would bring it more into the open so that human trafficking can be easily addressed. Legalizing brothels allows the government to have more control over the prostitution industry and gives them more ammunition to prevent the illegal forced trafficking of women who are exploited and forced into it.
