In the first stanza, the tone is more critical and negative, however in the second stanza, Barnett changed the tone to a more positive one and shows in depth how the society creates an opinion about a person based on his appearance. People express negative opinions about others, so they are able to feel better about themselves. So many good people have been killed because of the way their political views appeared and for many other reasons. This poem explains how people have two faces, they say one thing but do another. Most people pretend to be nice and perfect, but the next moment you catch them making fun of someone because they have nothing better to do. Barnett wrote a poem that really makes us think about what society has become and how, if we don't act now, things will continue to get worse. We are the company; we have created an environment where it is literally impossible to be happy. Every direction you turn, something negative happens, something that can ruin your day or your life. If you are not popular, are classified as a loser, or are not the captain of the football team, you are not allowed to date the head cheerleader, even if you are in love.
