Reading a book every now and then helps us not to be ignorant towards the outside world. Readers often dare to compare and discuss the books they have read. It works when we read two masterpieces of literature that could be very similar and at the same time very different stories. I was very fortunate to read the screenplay for “To Kill a Mockingbird” and the portion of the memoir “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.” After reading these two great pieces of literature I dare to compare the main characters, Scout from “To Kill a Mockingbird” and Maria from “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”. The main intentions of these two books are to teach a lesson to their readers, be they children or adults. In the story "To Kill a Mockingbird" Scout is the main character of the story. She is a 7 year old girl, who lives with her father Atticus and her brother Jim. Her mother died when Scout was just a baby. For this reason he lives in a single parent home.
